When we visited Monterey, CA in early 2024, I found Casa Munras Garden Hotel & Spa as a dog-friendly hotel option in the area. However, I was blown away by their beautiful accommodations and amenities for dog lovers (and cats!).
Casa Munras is THE perfect stop if you are traveling between Northern and Southern California, or specifically visiting beautiful Monterey.
So I asked the managers at Casa Munras what tips they have for pet-friendly travelers and what makes them stand out among dog-friendly hotels.

What are the pet guidelines for staying at Casa Munras?
How many pets/dogs are owners allowed to check into your hotel?
We allow up to two pets per room with a $50 cleaning fee per stay.
Are there breed/weight restrictions that owners should be aware of before traveling?
No! We love all pets.
Do you allow other types of animals, or just dogs?
Casa Munras welcomes dogs and cats in spacious first-floor rooms and suites.
Beds, bowls, and treats are available by request for your pet’s enjoyment.
Our pet friendly hotel in downtown Monterey offers historic charm, scenic gardens for walks and close to the Del Monte beach!

Our pet amenities are on par with our guest amenities! We provide bowls for food and water, cozy beds, crates, clean-up bags, and collars.

Yes! Esteban Restaurant allows emotional support animals and non-emotional support animals on our gorgeous, heated patio.

What should guests do if they have concerns about another guest’s pet?
It is our goal to keep our guests in a peaceful and safe environment.
If another guest’s pet is of concern, we ask that the front desk be contacted. This allows us to contact the owner.
What is a great reminder that owners need to know?
Pets love adventure too, so please remember to bring them with you wherever you go.
Just like kids, pets should not be left unattended!
The hotel can offer doggy day care recommendations if needed.

What is the biggest challenge that owners can help prevent?
We understand it might be tempting to pop out to explore without bringing pets.
It is important to remember that like children, pets should never be left in the room unattended.
Pets love adventure too, so please remember to bring them with you wherever you go!
Should owners crate their dogs while in your hotel, if they are away from the room?
We ask that no pets are left in the guest room unattended.
Pets are your travel companions, and love the outdoor options in the area!
What is the funniest experience that has happened with canine guests?
We host an annual Halloween Costume Party for people and their pets.
Last year, the pups started "talking" with one another, barking as if they were having a conversation!
Once they greeted each other, they quietly laid down and enjoyed the company, food and scenery!

Finally, having stayed there, I can attest to the cleanliness of the property. It was immaculate!
Surprise Find! The Wild Plum Café
While the Esteban Restaurant at Casa Munras offers a delicious weekend brunch, if you need a weekday option we found the perfect spot.
Just across the street from Casa Munras is the delightful Wild Plum Cafe. They have patio seating, delicious coffees and pastries, & full menu with gluten-free pancakes!
